I agree with isladogs that 600+ columns is pretty much. In my applications I hardly reach 20 columns/fields.
An alternate way is to use VBA, to open the CSV-file for Input, and read the file line by line.
Each line then can be splitted in a matrix of the underlying "fields" using the Split function. Then process this matrix in the appropriate way.
